3 tips for planting trees

The first year after planting is crucial for trees. Trees are still weakened because part of their root system has been pruned and they still have to adapt to the new soil conditions. The nutrient status of the new planting site is completely different from that of the nursery, where trees receive optimal amounts of nutrients and water to reach a marketable trunk diameter as quickly as possible.

To ensure a good start, it is therefore important to create the best possible growing conditions in the planting area. DCM has developed several products to support this process.

1. Soil improvement before planting

Would you like to bring the soil into optimal condition before planting or replanting? Then DCM SOIL-ACTIV is a smart choice. This soil improver increases the organic matter content, enhances soil structure through the addition of lava meal and stimulates soil life, enabling plants to establish roots more easily and grow more vigorously.

The added microorganisms help break down organic matter more efficiently, resulting in active soil life and improved nutrient uptake. This creates a healthy foundation for strong, vigorous plants.

2. Organo-mineral fertiliser for nutrition

A good base fertilisation at planting at planting ensures a strong start and continued growth of newly planted trees. DCM MIX 2 is an organo-mineral fertiliser that is gentle on young roots thanks to its mild action.

The amount of nutrients required at planting depends on trunk diameter and the organic matter content of the soil. After planting, it is important to monitor soil moisture levels carefully. Water shortages can occur, particularly in spring. At that time, trees are producing leaves and require large amounts of water, while their roots are not yet developed enough to access deeper moisture reserves. Overwatering can also be harmful. When soil pores become completely filled with water, insufficient oxygen remains available for the roots, causing root decline.

3. Liquid organic fertiliser for extra stimulation

To further stimulate growth, DCM has developed DCM PROLICO® TREE. This liquid organic fertiliser can be given simultaneously with irrigation water. Its composition has been specifically designed to provide newly planted trees with an extra growth boost during their first year. It promotes faster root development, enabling roots to explore the soil more effectively in search of water and nutrients. DCM PROLICO® TREE dissolves well in water. Approximately 100-150 cc per tree can be applied through irrigation. When supplying 50 litres of water per tree, the recommended dilution rate is 1:500.
