Organic fertilisation of potting soils: new perspectives with MINIGRAN® TECHNOLOGY

MINIGRAN® TECHNOLOGY is an innovative production system developed in-house for producing organic fertilisers in the form of microgranules. Trails show that this specific organic microgranule offers several advantages when used in potting soils.

Up to 60% more uniform distribution

Scientific trials conducted by AgroLab in Merelbeke, Belgium (2003), show that with organic fertilisers in MINIGRAN® form, variability in the amount of fertiliser per potting soil sample is reduced by 60% compared with pellets and by 45% compared with crumbles. In other words, MINIGRAN® provides a much more uniform distribution of fertiliser throughout the potting soil. Thanks to their small size, the microgranules are also particularly suitable for use in potting soils for pressed growing blocks.

Faster starting effect with the same long-lasting action

The same trials show that following the application of organic fertilisers in MINIGRAN® form, the first nutrients become available to the plants much faster than when the same fertiliser is used in pellet or in crumble form [source: AgroLab, Merelbeke, Belgium (2003)]. At the same time, the long-lasting effect is maintained.

More phosphorus (P) available to plants

It was also found that when organic fertilisers in MINIGRAN® form are used, up to twice as much phosphorus (P) becomes available to plants compared with with crumble formulations, and up to three times as much compared with pellet forms. This effect is most pronounced during the first 40 days following application [source: AgroLab, Merelbeke, Belgium (2003)]. As phosphorus is a particularly important nutrient for good root development, among other things, this explains why DCM Organic Fertilisers in MINIGRAN® form can promote better rooting and, consequently, stronger plants.
