Thanks to their high C/N ratio of 250-350, DCM CASTANEA COVER CHIPS decompose very slowly and thus remain intact longer than ornamental bark for example, whose C/N ratio is 150-230. This means that the lifespan of chestnut chips is twice as long as that of other covering materials. Chestnut wood also has a lower acidifying effect on the soil than bark and it is very resistant to moisture and rot. For these reasons, chestnut wood is often used for barriers and fences.
Thanks to their natural greying process, these chestnut wood chips provide a decorative ground cover that makes plants stand out even more. As they are thinner and flatter than classic bark, a thinner layer (6 cm) is sufficient to protect the soil against weed growth.
