Less and better packaging

Thanks to our own R&D department and researchers worldwide, we are learning more and more about sustainable development. In the field of packaging we have already made great strides, but there is always room for improvement. That is why we have drawn up our own prevention plan to reduce the environmental impact of our packaging and the amount of packaging per kilogram of packaged product.

For example, the use of a thinner plastic film for the 25 kg and 20 kg bags has allowed us to save 14% plastic per bag, without losing strength and quality. In addition, the wrapping of our product pallets is entirely computer controlled, which allows us to maximize the elasticity of the plastic and optimize the number of turns per pallet. Thanks to this automated process and the use of a thinner film, we save 40% of plastic each year.

We also believe in the reuse of packaging materials. For this reason, all our packaging is 100% recyclable. In addition, our liquid fertiliser bottles and our potting soil bags are made of at least 80% recycled materials.

Another application resulting from our packaging prevention plan is our spreader box for fertilisers and lawn and flower seeds. This package has been awarded both a Belux and a European award! Where we used to pack our fertilisers and seeds in a plastic bag before putting them in a cardboard box, we launched an innovative spreader box. It is more convenient for the consumer and better for the environment, because:

  • No more plastic bags are needed; fertilisers and grass seeds can be spread directly from the box.

  • The cardboard used is FSC-certified.

  • Thanks to the smart format based on the Lego principle, the spreader boxes can be easily transported.

Thanks to the spreader boxes, we save 3,7 tons of plastic every year!
