Thanks to their high C/N ratio of 250-350, DCM CASTANEA COVER CHIPS decompose very slowly and therefore remain effective for longer than decorative bark products, which typically have a C/N ratio of 150-230. As a result, chestnut wood chips offer a longer lifespan than covering materials with a lower C/N ratio. In addition, they pose a lower risk of soil acidification than bark and are highly resistant to moisture and decay. For these reasons, chestnut wood is often used for fencing and outdoor timber structures.
As the chips weather naturally, they develop an attractive grey appearance that enhances the visual impact of surrounding plants. Because they are thinner and flatter than bark, a layer of just 6 cm is sufficient to provide effective weed suppression.
DCM CASTANEA COVER CHIPS are obtained as a by-product of processing chestnut trees for the wood industry.
