The greater the genetic similarity between the virus responsible for the initial infection and the virus causing subsequent infection pressure, the more effective the mechanism becomes. The active ingredient in PMV®-01 contains a mild isolate of the Chilean strain of PepMV. This mild and stable Chilean isolate rapidly spreads throughout all plant tissues, ensuring that the plant's immune system is activated throughout the entire crop 4 to 6 weeks after vaccination. After this period, the plant is better protected against new attacks by aggressive PepMV isolates. In addition, the mild isolate generally causes no visible symptoms on the fruits and has little to no impact on yield or fruit quality.
