Hygiene Risk Assessment

Tomato growers are worried about the new Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV). There are currently no preventive or curative products on the market for this mechanically-transmissible virus. Growers are therefore strongly advised to take their hygiene strategy to the next level.

Hygiene strategy is crucial

Corporate hygiene is not only essential in the fight against mechanically transmitted viruses, but also in limiting the spread of other diseases and pests. However, corporate hygiene is a broad concept and it is often difficult to get a clear picture of it.

In recent years, an increasing number of growers have been asking DCM how to optimize their hygiene strategy. This is why a Hygiene Risk Assessment has been developed in collaboration with the practice centres PSKW and PCH and the research laboratory Scientia Terrae. This assessment makes it possible to describe in detail the current hygiene strategy with the grower and to highlight the most important hygiene risks. In addition, it is possible to test some surfaces after crop rotation to see if they are free of plant viruses.

The Hygiene Risk Assessment allows to identify company-specific problem areas, so that targeted actions can be taken to optimize the company’s hygiene strategy and reduce risks.

Good hygiene starts with awareness and DCM will be happy to help you in this regard.
