For Jeroen Satter, the passion for green is very important. Jeroen: ‘If a customer comes to us and ask us to pave his entire garden, I prefer to send him elsewhere. In consultation with the customer, I always try to design the greenest possible garden. I try to remove any doubts about plants and trees. Paving tiles, once installed, are swept now and then and that’s it, but a plant…’. Jeroen enjoys the challenge of designing and creating a suitable garden together with the customer. It is very important to give explanation about the choice and maintenance of the plants. ‘Once you have created a beautiful garden in the right way and with the appropriate plants, the customer can really enjoy it. The garden, which was initially just an idea, will start to grow and bloom, which makes customers even more excited.’
Tailored planting and fertilization advice after soil analysis
Jeroen Satter recently completed a project at McDonalds. Jeroen explains: ‘For the McDonalds project, along the motorway A2 Amsterdam, everything was ‘redeveloped’. The owner wanted an attractive, easily accessible green space. Before starting the work, a soil analysis was carried out to measure the main nutritional elements, trace elements, acidity (pH) and organic matter content. DCM offers these analyses in collaboration with Fertilab. Upon receipt of the analysis results, the DCM account manager formulates an appropriate planting and fertilization advice. In this particular case, it was important to check the acidity (pH) and organic matter content of the soil, because our intention was to plant also rhododendrons, which are acid-loving plants.
To lower the acidity (pH) of the soil and stimulate soil life, it was decided to add DCM VIVIMUS® FOR HEATHER/RHODO soil improver. Since the subsoil was made up of sand, it was partially excavated to about 40 cm. Black soil was then added, mixed with DCM VIVIMUS® FOR HEATHER/RHODO. This increased the organic matter content, which is beneficial for water management.’
