In collaboration with the Proefcentrum Fruitteelt vzw (pcfruit.be) in Sint Truiden, DCM conducted a pear trial on a 15-year-old planting of Conference pear trees, using DCM Leafgel® NK as a foliar fertiliser.
Specifically, four foliar applications with DCM Leafgel® NK were carried out over a period of two months and compared with a conventional foliar fertilisation programme using urea, potassium nitrate and calcium nitrate on the same number of trees.
Both in terms of average fruit weight per pear and the total number of kilograms of pears per tree, results are 7% higher for the trees treated with DCM Leafgel® NK. Based on the average BelOrta market prices at harvest, the larger pear sizes generated an added value of € 1 per tree, compared to an investment of approximately € 0.02 per tree for the application of the DCM Leafgel® NK foliar fertiliser.
